Amanda Price-McGregor (1990) was elected as the President of the Pembroke Old Scholars Committee in September 2020. Amanda is the Managing Director and owner of consulting firm Green Light Planning Solutions, and is a current parent of Pembroke.
What is your favourite memory of your time at Pembroke?
My Year 11 and 12 tutorial group and our tutor Mr Brian Burford. It was an economics tutorial, filled with some really great like-minded people. Our regular laughs that made those last two years of school really enjoyable.
What is your biggest career highlight?
Starting my own urban planning / town planning consulting business in 2012 and now using the skills I’ve gained over the years to contribute to our state through my roles on a few boards including the Infrastructure SA Board, Construction Industry Training Board and the ACECQA Board (Australian Childhood Education Care Quality Authority).
If I could change careers, I would be…
A travel reviewer, where I would travel the world staying in all sorts of stunning hotels, dining in amazing restaurants and reviewing them for others to experience too.
What do you enjoy about being a member of the Pembroke Old Scholars Association?
I love the connection with the school and spending time with other old scholars that I didn’t necessarily know at school, but we all come together with a common purpose to help create connections, community and pathways for our old scholars to stay connected with our school.
If I could have coffee with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Definitely Father Christmas, he’s travelled the world, he’s a fantastic time manager and a great planner – I’m sure he could give me some tips for my next travel destination.
A piece of advice that you would like to pass onto your children.
You are the only you in whole world and that makes you so very special and to also trust their instincts as it will help them make great choices.
Plus an old family favorite, which is, “if you are there, you are involved” so only you can decide if it’s a smart thing to be involved in.
What is the biggest risk you have taken?
Starting my own business. Prior to that I’d worked in State Government for a while, then larger engineering firms or smaller boutique planning and transport engineering firms, so deciding to start my own business while I was on maternity leave with my first child was definitely the biggest risk I’ve taken to date.
What is something you are grateful for?
I’m grateful for the family I was born into, the family I married into and now the family Don and I have created with our two children Cooper (Yr 3) and Ruby (Yr 2).
What is a talent you wish you had?
Cooper says to be better at cricket!
I actually wish I was more gifted in the singing and music area; I wish I could say play the piano and sing well.
What advice would you give to your 18 year old self?
Back yourself. Get to know your intuition and your gut feelings, nurture them and trust in them, they will rarely let you down.
