Ours is a strong and diverse community where every student can find their place, emboldened by the power of co-education. Our learning and caring culture is underpinned by our School Values of bravery, curiosity, kindness, inclusivity, uniqueness, honesty, service and respect.
Year 5 offers a precious gateway for students to develop academically, socially and emotionally, enabling them to progress with confidence into the final chapter of Junior School in Year 6. This paves the way for a smooth transition to Year 7 in our vibrant Middle School as they enter the crucial and exciting stage of young adolescent schooling.
During Years 5 and 6 at Pembroke, students consolidate and extend the foundational skills that are critical for future academic success. These final years of the Junior School experience are marked by increasing rigour, sophistication and independence as students deepen their literacy and numeracy capabilities and broaden their understanding across all areas of the curriculum.
Guided by highly skilled specialist teachers, students are challenged to think critically, apply their knowledge with confidence and take greater responsibility for their learning, ensuring they are well prepared for a successful transition into the middle years of schooling.

Pembroke students engage in deep learning and explorations through the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. This culminates in the Year 6 IB PYP Exhibition, a capstone experience where the cohort investigates issues close to their heart as they strive to shape a hopeful future together.
Our learners embrace weekly enrichment lessons led by a dedicated teacher to complement their daily studies. Students identified as having high academic potential are supported by targeted withdrawal sessions to elevate mathematical skills and critical and higher-order thinking.
Analytical reasoning and complex problem solving also come to the fore in our trailblazing Primary Ethics Program where all students from Reception to Year 6 deeply contemplate our power to make ethical decisions. In our context as a non-denominational school, we believe in spiritual exploration, acceptance of diverse faiths and authentic understanding of belief systems from across the globe.

Beyond the classroom, a hallmark of a Pembroke education is our experiential learning programs. This includes our Year 5 Camp at Wellington on the River Murray and an adventure to Canberra in Year 6. Both journeys enable students to consolidate their learning while developing resilience, building connections with each other and creating lifelong memories.
Another upper primary standout is our acclaimed Year 5 Musical where our students shine on stage in a dazzling production. This celebrated rite of passage acts as an evolutionary experience as students grow in confidence and character through collaboration and creativity.
Jacqui and Sam, proud parents of Sid, say the Year 5 Musical was a family highlight:
'As a child who had undertaken singing lessons and participated in a number of musical theatre shows from an early age, our son was most excited about participating in the Year 5 Musical with his peers. While we knew he would be in his element and loving every minute, we absolutely adored watching other children, not as familiar with being on stage, be truly amazing. We were also very proud to hear that our son was behind the scenes supporting and encouraging his classmates and helping them with nerves. The staff at Pembroke really know how to bring out the best in each and every student.'

Creative, social and physical pursuits also abound throughout our comprehensive Co-Curricular Program which spans disciplines including The Arts, Sport, Technology and signature opportunities such as our growing Heritage Languages Program.
Across our curricular and co-curricular endeavours, service and leadership are core to a Pembroke education where we provide a variety of experiences for students to find their voice and nurture their commitment to helping others.
Year 5 at Pembroke is a truly momentous period of discovery, belonging and joy, opening doors for our students as they embark upon this defining chapter of their schooling and life journey.
