Ethical and Spiritual Care incorporates our School Values of curiosity, respect, honesty, uniqueness, inclusivity, bravery, kindness and service.
We embrace the diversity of our community and broader world as we seek to model the highest aspirations possible to create a peaceful, just and harmonious world for all.
We believe in spiritual exploration, acceptance of diverse faiths and authentic understanding of belief systems from across the globe. We deliberately seek to identify the 'golden thread' that connects histories, cultures and societies through shared universal values. This golden thread represents our common humanity and aspirations for a hopeful future.
Ethical development is a priority in our contemporary educational setting. Students are shaped by their values and decisions, and it is important that they are encouraged to contemplate the ethical component of their choices through the development of reasoning skills. We encourage students to consider how their decisions may impact upon the lives of others, the environment and themselves. We strive to educate students who are aware of their power to influence and create positive change in the world with compassion, conviction and character.
In the Junior School, we have established a partnership with The Ethics Centre, through which we use the Primary Ethics Curriculum to deliver weekly lessons for all students from Reception to Year 6. These learning experiences engage students in dialogical learning that utilises a range of stimuli to prompt exploration of various ethical dilemmas through Socratic questioning techniques. Discussions encourage critical thinking and contemplation of our power to make ethical decisions. Secondary students participate in the Social, Emotional and Personal Development (SEPD) Program which fosters knowledge and skill while raising awareness of contemporary issues relating to young people and their wellbeing.
Students engage in spiritual exploration through our Chapel Program which is explicitly connected to our Ethics Program. Junior School students attend services entitled ‘Golden Thread Gatherings’ which explore the history of Philosophy, various belief systems and acts of service. Our Middle and Senior School Chapel Program is delivered through an established partnership with the Abraham Institute – a leader in interfaith dialogue – where students hear from a range of speakers from diverse faiths. Presentations address themes such as compassion to encourage an understanding of varying perspectives.
Our programs engage students in comprehensive spiritual exploration and authentic ethical development, emboldening them to emerge as global citizens with respect for diversity and awareness of our shared humanity.
