The Hearing Unit has resource rooms on our Girton and King's Campuses where teachers qualified in Deaf Education support our hearing-impaired students through specialist teaching, counselling, and technical matters relating to hearing aids, cochlear implants and FM systems.
All hearing-impaired students are members of mainstream classes who closely follow the School timetable and spend as much time as possible with their mainstream class. Ranging from our Early Learning Centre through to Year 12, hearing-impaired students are provided with specialist support from Hearing Unit teachers as they progress through the School.
Students with hearing loss receive particular focus which seeks to further develop listening, speech, language, thinking and conversational skills, and to enhance, reiterate and interpret regular classroom lessons using individual and small group tutoring and in-class support.
The strong and varied Co-Curricular Program at Pembroke provides rich opportunities for our hearing-impaired students to participate on an equal basis, further empowering them to embrace all aspects of life at the School.
